SANS, SOUCI. is a series of four performances that will take place on July 26th, and August 2nd, 9th, and 16th, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the house museum’s garden. The performance stems from the associations intended by Ema Klabin—in the architecture and decoration of her home—with the Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam, the summer residence of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia between 1740 and 1786.

Performed by four actors specializing in living statue performances, SANS, SOUCI. evokes notions of labor and leisure, production and expenditure, occupation and free time.

The Jardim Imaginário (Imaginary Garden) program aims to provide visitors of the house museum with new pathways and interpretations through an original contemporary artwork installed in the museum’s garden space, designed by Roberto Burle Marx. It promotes a dialogue with the collection gathered by Ema Klabin, her residential space, and the annual themes proposed by the institution.

Conceived by contemporary art curator Gilberto Mariotti, Jardim Imaginário is now in its sixth edition. Previous participating guest artists include João Loureiro, Paulo Climachauska, Leandro Lima and Gisela Motta, and Marcius Galan. In its fifth edition, the first selected through an open call, artist Marcia Pastore took part.

Ana Dias Batista

Ana Dias Batista was born in São Paulo in 1978. Her artistic interventions have been consistently succinct in their media, despite a wide range of references and a varied formal repertoire. Using strategies of reiteration and saturation of real-world elements, her works respond critically to the contexts in which they circulate. Parallelisms, coincidences, repetitions, and analogies attest to her intention to organize the world, to construct a language. Deviations, noise, and a certain resistance to visibility, however, repeatedly frustrate the endeavor. Holding a degree and a Ph.D. (2014) from the Universidade de São Paulo, Ana has presented solo exhibitions at the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo and the Museu de Arte da Pampulha, among other venues. Her most recent solo show, Comigo-Ninguém-Pode `{`Untouchable/Dumb Cane`}`, at Galeria Marília Razuk, transformed the gallery into a plant shop. Her works are included in the collections of the Pinacoteca, MAM-SP, MAC-USP, and the Getty Institute in Los Angeles, as well as in publications such as “Remains - Tomorrow: Themes in Contemporary Latin American Abstraction” (Cecilia Fajardo-Hill, Hatje Cantz, 2022) and “Artists and their Books, Books and their Artists” (Marcia Reed and Glenn Phillips, The Getty Research Institute, 2018).
